The first Tuesday of August is National Night Out, and this year, the SeaChordsmen continued their tradition of heading out into the neighborhood where we rehearse to sing to various gatherings, spreading joy and harmony! We passed out flyers about our upcoming Pirate Show (August 19 at Queen Anne Baptist Church -- 2PM!), and had a jolly time. Here are the quartets and the VLQ (very large quartet) members who brought fun to the community:

Congratulations to our very own Elizabeth Davies on completing her certification as the first female judge in the singing category for the Barbershop Harmony Association! It's an honor (there are fewer than 30 such judges in the world), and she's worked hard for it. We're proud of you -- congratulations, Elizabeth!!
The fun never stops! In addition to performing last weekend, we also converged on Dave Rice's house on Sunday for monthly Quartet Corps. We workshopped some chorus songs, we had some sightreading practice on a holiday piece Jim W is arranging, and we swapped parts for fun, too.

We often try to record a tag with a guest, and even more so when somebody joins the chorus as a new member! Over the holidays, we welcomed a bunch of guests, and all of our best intentions along those lines got away from us. But only temporarily! So, here's a belated and giant welcome to Marlese, a new-ish tenor in the chorus!
We recorded this tag originally during our sunny afterglow at the Seattle Center, after performing for folklife (see photo above). The drum circle in the background was a bit of a distraction, though, so we vowed to re-record the tag, and here it is:
It wasn't his first time, and it won't be his last time, we hope, but Alexander Koller visited the SeaChordsmen this week to coach us during our rehearsal this week. We did lots of fun stuff -- tons of snapping, learned a visual cue to help us think about landing on the top side of a blown pitch, along with exercises designed to remind us that we can control our singing tempo ourselves so that Elizabeth doesn't have to waste her energy on it. It was great! We got Alexander to come to afterglow with us, too -- here he is singing the tag Carolina In My Mind with some SeaChordsmen:
We love sharing harmony, and are always excited to have guests join us for a rehearsal.
