The kind folks at the Greater Seattle Choral Consortium shared their photos and video footage from the 2022 Seattle Sings, which happened on October 29, 2022. Check out our performance of these four songs:

  • Moonlight Becomes You
  • You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me
  • What Do You Do With the Drunken Sailor
  • Rhythm of Love

We were so glad to be back performing at Seattle Sings!

We were excited to have some amazing guests with us for our first guest night in preparation for our holiday concert. We had ten folks join us and start learning our two guest songs -- Warm and Fuzzy and Little Saint Nick. Our directors led us through some of the ways barbershop singing is different from much other group and choral singing, and our guests seemed to catch on quick, while having a good time.

Here's the full holiday chorus singing a tag we learned at the end of our warm-up:

It's been a packed few weeks for the SeaChordsmen, but one highlight was our performance in the Evergreen District Competition in Federal Way on October 22. Our contest set was:

  • Moonlight Becomes You
  • You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me

We've worked hard over the last few years, and we've had some incredible coaches come work with us, too. Our directors' dedication paid off -- our scores were much improved from our last competition performance in 2019.

Seattle Sings was back this year after taking two years away from in-person events due to the Coronavirus. Virtual shows were a fantastic stop-gap, but it was amazing to perform in person again! This year's festival boasted a great lineup, celebrating the depth and breadth of the singing opportunities available in the Seattle Area!

Here's a video of one of our songs from the event: https://youtu.be/TrS6_5Wv0KY

Cheers to Seattle Sings for another successful event. It was great to share the stage with this year's participating choruses.

We've been having some great rehearsals lately -- we made good progress in the run-up to our competition in late October, and we did great there, making our directors very proud. We've had a bunch of different guests over the last handful of weeks, and have started working on holiday songs, too. There's so much going on and it's all fun and interesting, and every week is exciting!

Two of the guests in this photo from just a couple of weeks ago have since joined, so they're not all guests anymore. Welcome to the fold, Warwick and Konstantin!

One of our recent topics of focus was preparing for Seattle Sings, which is coming up this weekend. Here we are shaking the dust off of Rhythm of Love, which will be one of our four performance pieces for that event:

It's been three years since the last time the Evergreen District competition took place, and we got to join together as choruses to sing. The photo above is from the last district competition in Spokane in 2019. Needless to say, we're all very to finally be back to an in-person barbershop competition! The first round of the quartet competition is in the books -- congratulations to the three SeaChordsmen-affiliated quartets who competed on Friday evening! Now it's time for the chorus competition. Best of luck to the other choruses from around the northwest as they perform. Tickets are still available: https://evgdistrict.com/2022-district-convention/

We're so excited to finally be back to an in-person barbershop competition! This weekend (October 21-22), choruses and quartets from around the northwest will convene in Federal Way to compete together for the first time in three years. We've been working on our songs for a long time and are excited to get together to celebrate!

The SeaChordsmen have three chorus-affiliated quartets competing in this year's contest. Top of the Hill is pictured above. Another is Mirth:

And finally the newest quartet, the Post-It Notes:

We had such a great time working with Rob last week! Yes, it's contest season, and we're prepping our two contest songs for the Evergreen District competition on October 22. Rob gave us some great stuff to work on...

  • The chorus should not fall below "the Mel line!" Yes, we are so lucky to have an incredibly expressive co-director giving us great guidance on being as expressive as possible, and if we reflect even half as much enthusiasm and dynamic energy back at her, we will be so compelling!
  • Our directors each got some good feedback, too, on making sure they're doing all they can to wring the best possible performance from the chorus!

It's always a delight to have Rob join us. Until next time!

If we've said it once, we've said it a million times... There's not much we love more than singing a tag with a guest. Here's Jeff singing lead last night on When Happy Little Bluebirds Fly -- we hope to see him next week!

Come join us some Tuesday evening and sing a tag with us!
